Is the International Criminal Court delivering on the promise of its founding, and what countries from the Global South are emerging onto the global stage as new defenders of human rights and democracy? Roth and his guests will provide fresh perspectives on these and other questions on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th May 2025.
On Tuesday 12th May 2025, Ken will be joined by Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi and Stephen Walt. Silvia Fernández de Gurmendi is a former President of the International Criminal Court – the first woman to hold the position – and served as ICC Judge for nearly a decade, holding to account presidents, dictators and war lords. Stephen Walt is one of today’s leading scholars and analysts on US foreign policy and warfare. He’s a longtime columnist for Foreign Policy and Professor of International Relations at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Together with Ken Roth, they will delve into the US’ legacy of unchecked power and its changing position in the world, and examine the ICC’s quest for global justice and accountability amidst a shifting world order.
On Wednesday 13th May 2025, Ken will be joined by Emily Feng and Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla. Emily Feng is an international correspondent for NPR specialized in China. She previously served as China correspondent for the Financial Times based in Beijing, an experience that became the foundation of her 2025 book ‘Let Only Red Flowers Bloom,’ which chronicles her decade reporting from Asia Pacific. Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla is a general coordinator for Progressive International, which works to “unite, organise and mobilise progressive forces around the world”. She’s also the acting Chair of the Hague Group, a coalition of nations from the Global South formed to uphold the rulings of the International Court of Justice and the ICC regarding Israel-Palestine. Together with Ken Roth, they will explore how China and other countries in the Global South are reshaping global standards – for better or worse.

THE MANY WRONGS OF LORD CHRISTIAN BRIGHTY
A new Radio 4 sitcom about a hedonistic Regency-era aristocrat who has an epiphany and decides he must right all his many past misdeeds, accompanied by his radical chambermaid Babs and very reluctant butler Churlington. Think 'Bridgerton' and 'Poldark' mashed up with ‘My Name Is Earl’.Lord Christian Brighty is the talk of the Regency Ton - a celebrated libertine, a heartthrob and a hero to many. But close-up, he is a spoilt, impetuous, life-ruining bastard… or at least he was. Because his previously carefree life of casual debauchery, non-stop revelry and infinite privilege has been upended by an unfortunate accident (shot by a cannon after a new servant’s hazing ritual goes awry) and an even more unfortunate period of recovery, where his intended victim - uneducated but forthright chambermaid Babbigail (Babs for short) - decides straight-talking is the best medicine and thus becomes the first person ever to tell him the unvarnished truth about himself and the consequences of his actions.
So now, with his narcissism collapsing and faith in the system shattered, Lord Brighty is determined to fix all his past wrongs - and by extension all the ills of Regency society. Accompanying him in his quest are Babs (elevated beyond her station to a chambermaid-cum-adviser role) and dutiful butler Churlington – who would really just like everything to stay exactly as it used to be (as would all Brighty’s friends, family and the entirety of high society).
Written by award-winning comedians Christian Brighty and Amy Greaves, whose sketches based on Bridgerton, Poldark and Jane Austen (@brightybuoy) have catapulted them to viral stardom, with over 100 million views across TikTok and Instagram - securing Christian’s place as the internet’s answer to Mr Darcy, and earning them a nomination for a Writer’s Guild Award.
